We follow the Edexcel A specification at GCSE.
This course helps students to make sense of the world around them, in terms of local, British and world events, by understanding key events and periods of the past. The course encourages students to reflect upon these periods and use their explanatory and evaluative skills to analyse the impact they have had on the modern world. It requires to become more independent in their learning and to think creatively about the nature of their work.
Students start to study the content for their controlled assessment (Unit 4) in the summer term of Y9 thus allowing us to focus fully on the necessary skills from September to October in Year 10, students then take their controlled assessment in early November of Year 10. The remainder of Year 10 is spent studying for Unit 1 which they sit in the June of Year10.
Having completed Unit 1 in the summer term of Year 10 students start to study for Unit 3 which they sit in the January of Year 11 and then they have one final examination, Unit 2, in the summer term of Year 11 .
A brief overview of the topics can be found on the individual unit pages, along with links to relevant documents.
